ESG and SFDR disclosure - Kneip

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is becoming increasingly integrated in investment policies and processes. SFDR level 1 were the first of new regulations to enter into force and impact all funds directly or indirectly, regardless of the types of funds managers provide, including new data standards and new ESG specific disclosures.

Today our teams are building solutions to support your compliance efforts ahead of SFDR level II. What’s more, you have access to top quality regulatory expertise and our teams work closely with media destinations across the globe to understand how regulations are being translated into practice.

A diffent type of data

ESG data brings new challenges to the fund industry

A new type of data

A new type of data

The new regulation brings new documents and formats (EET)

It also brings massive amounts of data

New platforms have appeared on the market and have set various metrics, create reports and provide actionable insights

There is still a lack of knowledge within the industry on how the data is ingested and published

New specialised distributors generate new process and ESG focused profiles

Subject to interpretation

Subject to interpretation

The multiplication of data entry makes the data more volatile

Each vendor, platform, distributor make their own calculation and provide their own reports

Results could differ from an actor to another which fosters discrepancies

A reputation risk

A reputation risk

Wrong SFDR classification and/or wrong ESG characteristics, PAIs, screening criteria, can impact its visibility to investors

Managers need to take care in formulating and updating their sustainability frameworks and implementing their ESG policies

The worst case of «green washing», could be the consequence by the wrong publication of a third party

ESG data transparency is about to become critical

ESG and fund data

ESG and fund data

Increasingly, ESG data and information is being published by data vendors and data intermediaries, as this data needs to be integrated by Asset Managers in their investment management processes as well as it is made available to investors prior to investment decision, and on a periodic basis.

ESG and growth

ESG and growth

In addition, regulators are now expecting asset managers to report on their ESG governance & processes as well as it is required that ESG data is made available to all levels of market participants. Characterizing funds from an ESG perspective is becoming more important than ever to contribute to growth.

ESG and technology

ESG and technology

To get ahead of SFDR level 2, asset managers will need to keep up with the regulatory developments as they happen and understand not only their consequences but also the response from the industry and the first elements of best practice.
